Value Investing in a Bear Market

Friday, October 10th, 2008 | All, Stock Picks & Trading Advice | No Comments

Believe it or not, but there are certain investors that are actually enjoying the panic-inducing crash in the stock market. No, we’re not talking about short sellers. We’re talking about value investors, who haven’t had much to buy in the last few years with valuations at a skyhigh level.

Now, P/E ratios are dropping and value investors, in the spririt of Warren Buffet, are getting excited. Value investors don’t let the market’s fear (or greed) affect their opinions. They let the numbers speak for themselves to make their stock picks.

At the end of the day, there’s no point in trying to time the bottom of the market. It can’t be done. Over the long-term, the market is on an upwards trend and that’s the attitude you have to take: a long-term approach to investing.

A writer able to keep pace with the wild swerves in the Buffett story and the intricacies of Mr. Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway business empire. Ms. Schroeder is as insightful about her subject’s precise anticipation of current financial crises as she is about his quirky personal story. And she is a clear explicator of fiscal issues.”—New York Times
